Dr. Catherine Holloway

Biography

Catherine Holloway is a Professor in Interaction Design and Innovation at University College London. She is also the Academic Director of the Global Disability Innovation Hub, which she co-founded in 2016. Her work bridges the fields of Disability Innovation and Human-Computer Interaction, focusing on inclusive design and equitable technology development. The GDI Hub has grown into a leading Collaborating Centre for Assistive Technology, managing a portfolio of over £50 million and reaching more than 64 million people globally. With decades of experience in assistive technology, Catherine's research addresses key areas such as the use of inclusive language through human-centred AI and local inclusive innovation, particularly in the context of trauma. Her collaboration with the Anna Freud Centre and UCL Interaction Centre has been pivotal in developing technologies that support therapeutic practices. She has published over 190 academic papers and co-authored the book 'Disability Interactions – Creating Inclusive Innovations'. Additionally, Catherine serves on the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team for the Healthcare Technologies Programme and chairs the AI Assistive Technologies Committee at UNESCO Centre for Artificial Intelligence.
