Dr. Catherine Hurd

Biography

Catherine Hurd is a Wellcome Early-Career Fellow at the University of Manchester, specializing in Chemical Biology and the innovative development of mRNA display and DNA-encoded library selection methods. Her research aims to identify novel ligands for challenging protein targets, which are essential for drug discovery and understanding biological pathways. Catherine's focus is on adapting selection methods to native cellular environments, which enables access to membrane protein targets and large protein complexes. Through her work, she seeks to accelerate the discovery of high-quality chemical probes that provide access to new protein targets. She holds a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Cambridge, where she worked on stapled peptides targeting Ral GTPases, and a Master of Science in Medicinal Biological Chemistry from the University of Nottingham. Her work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to education and advancements in medicinal chemistry.
