Biography

Catherine Jurca is a Professor of English Visual Culture at the California Institute of Technology. Her academic focus includes Classical Hollywood film, exhibition history, and the twentieth-century American novel. Jurca's research investigates the relationship between business history and major film companies, the movies produced, and the audiences that consumed them. She authored 'Hollywood 1938: Motion Pictures' Greatest Year' published by the University of California Press in 2012, and 'White Diaspora: Suburb Twentieth-Century American Novel' from Princeton University Press in 2001. Additionally, she has contributed articles to journals such as Cinema Journal, Film History, and American Literary History. Jurca also holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, and has been a member of the Caltech faculty since 1995.
