Biography

Catherine M. Klapperich is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. She also serves as the Associate Dean for Research and Director of the NIBIB POCTRN Center for Future Technologies in Cancer Care. Dr. Klapperich earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2000. Her research focuses on engineering medical devices for low-resource settings and point-of-care diagnostics, particularly for infectious diseases. Current projects in her laboratory include the development of disposable microfluidic diagnostics that incorporate on-board sample preparation and minimize the need for complex instruments, aimed at enabling molecular diagnostics in diverse environments. She has actively participated in national and international research conferences and serves on the editorial board of Biomedical Microdevices, contributing her expertise in the field.
