Catherine Mavriplis holds an Honour's Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, a Master's, and a Ph.D. in Aeronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She completed a postdoctoral stay at Princeton University and later became a professor in mechanical aerospace engineering at George Washington University. Mavriplis has also worked with the National Science Foundation and NASA Langley and the University of Oklahoma before returning to Canada. She is currently the President of the Computational Fluid Dynamics Society of Canada and a Councillor for the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. Mavriplis has been involved in advancing women in science and engineering through various funded programs since 1996 and currently holds the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering in Ontario, appointed in 2011. She is a recipient of the Elsie MacGill Northern Lights Award for Education (2016) and the 2019 Partners in Research Technology & Engineering Ambassador Award.
