Dr. Catherine Morgan

Biography

Professor Catherine Morgan is a Senior Research Fellow in Classics at the University of Oxford's Souls College. Her research interests encompass Mediterranean History, Archaeology, and Ancient Religion. She has significant expertise in Greek History and Archaeology, focusing on various topics including Greek sanctuaries, politics, cultural identities, and landscape archaeology. Morgan's prolific academic career includes directing the British School at Athens from 2007 to 2015 and being a Professor of Classical Archaeology at King's College London prior to that. She has published numerous scholarly works, including critical essays and edited volumes on archaic and Hellenistic archaeology, Pindar's poetry, and early Greek states. Her ongoing contributions to the field promote an understanding of the ancient Mediterranean world, particularly in relation to religious practices and pottery production. Morgan is recognized for her extensive studies in the cultural and political dynamics of early Greece, contributing significantly to archaeological scholarship and education.
