Dr. Catherine Mulligan

Biography

Catherine Mulligan is a distinguished professor at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, where she specializes in environmental engineering. Her academic journey began with B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees from the Department of Chemical Engineering at McGill University, followed by a Ph.D. from the Department of Civil Engineering at the same institution. With over 40 years of research experience across government, industrial, and academic sectors, she has significantly contributed to the field of geoenvironmental engineering. Dr. Mulligan has held various leadership roles, including being the Director of the Concordia Institute of Water, Energy and Sustainable Systems and a Concordia Research Chair in Geoenvironmental Sustainability. Her work primarily focuses on remediation techniques for contaminated soils and sediments, bioremediation methods, and the treatment of wastewater. She has authored more than 140 refereed papers and supervised the completion of over 75 graduate students. Her extensive professional affiliations include membership in several engineering societies, and she has received various awards for her contributions to the field, including the Miroslaw Romanowski Medal from the Royal Society of Canada, and multiple accolades for promoting sustainability in engineering.
