Biography

Catherine Noske is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of English Literary Studies at the University of Western Australia. She has served as the Editor of Westerly Magazine from 2015 to 2023 and continues to support the magazine as a Scholarly Editor. Noske's debut novel, 'Salt Madonna' (Picador 2020), was shortlisted for the 2021 WA Premier’s Book Awards. Currently, she is working on new manuscripts, including a hybrid poetry/essay collection. Noske completed her PhD in creative writing at Monash University, where her research focused on white Australian practices in writing landscapes. Her work examines settler-colonial consciousness in Australian literature, particularly through the lens of Randolph Stow's writings. She has published in various journals and magazines and has received several awards, including the A.D. Hope Prize and the Elyne Mitchell Prize. Noske has also judged notable literary awards, including the Prime Minister's Literary Awards and the ALS Gold Medal. Her current teaching includes courses such as 'Reading Creatively', 'Creative Writing: Theory and Practice', and 'Studies in Creative Writing'.
