I am an anthropologist and global health researcher with extensive experience working in Indonesia and an ongoing interest in transnational health issues in the Asia Pacific region. Currently, I am a research fellow in the Department of Anthropology at Macquarie University, where I hold a grant from the Australian Research Council (a DECRA - Discovery Early Career Researchers Award). My research examines midwifery and maternal health in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, utilizing life histories of midwives and qualitative methods to investigate the socio-political processes that influence their relationships with communities and the broader healthcare system. My work contributes to key areas of knowledge, including qualitative research on health practitioners in challenging environments, the impact of emotion and embodiment in culture and medicine, and the intersection of social inequality and health justice. Previously, I conducted a major project on globalization and post-traumatic stress disorder, focusing on trauma and resilience in the social recovery context of the Indonesian province of Aceh. In addition to my research, I also teach at universities in Australia, the Netherlands, and Singapore, and I have conducted technical consultancies for global health agencies on topics related to global health development in the Asia Pacific region.
