Biography

Catherine Xhardez is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Montreal. She holds a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from Saint-Louis University - Brussels and Sciences Po Paris. Prior to joining the University of Montreal, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Brussels School of Governance from 2020 to 2022 and a postdoctoral fellow at Concordia University from 2018 to 2020. Formed in political science at Sciences Po Paris and public law at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, her research focuses on immigration, public policies, and federalism. Currently, Catherine Xhardez is developing a research program on immigration federalism and policies related to immigration in federal states and at the level of federal entities. Her doctoral thesis examined the links between sub-state nationalism and immigrant integration in Flanders and Quebec. In this framework, she conducted research stays at Yale, McGill, and Oxford. Her research has been published in journals including Regional Studies, Citizenship Studies, and the Journal of International Migration and Integration, as well as in several collective works.
