Biography

Cathrin Wasshede is an Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of Gothenburg. Her dissertation, titled "Passionate Politics: Resistance Heteronormative Gender Power" (2010), explores the dynamics of resistance among young leftist extra-parliamentary activists in Gothenburg against dominating norms related to gender and sexuality. Her research interests focus on gender, sexuality, power, and resistance, covering areas such as LGBTQ+ organizing, urban spaces, governmentality, and dying and death. Currently, Wasshede is involved in a research project on parental insurance and its implications for equality and fairness in everyday life. She also examines experiences of dying and bereavement in co-housing communities. Over the years, she has published various articles and books, including works on cultural products and their role in shaping transnational communities and on sustainable urban development through co-housing. Wasshede teaches feminist theory, queer theory, and postcolonial theory at the University of Gothenburg, where she also supervises undergraduate research projects in qualitative methods and contributes to numerous academic publications in her fields of expertise.
