Cathryn Klasto is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg specializing in Critical Spatial Practice with a focus on interiors and processes of interiority. Her research investigates the ways in which design experiences of spatial interiors generate ethical relations across digital and non-digital thresholds. She employs writing and iterative prototyping as methods in her artistic research, deliberately avoiding finality in her explorations. Currently, Klasto is developing a collection of visual essays that examine the spatialization of ethics in artistic research, drawing on popular culture, particularly the franchise Star Trek. She is also engaged in a FORMAS-funded research project titled ‘The Fountain: art-technological-social drama’ and contributes to various editorial boards including L’Internationale Online and ARSNET. Her academic journey includes a BA in Art Architectural History from the University of Warwick, an MA in Gender Law from SOAS, and a PhD in Architecture from the University of Sheffield, focusing on the networks between domestic interiors and urban socio-cultural infrastructures in contemporary Tokyo. Klasto's diverse research interests include ethics in artistic production, spatial justice, technological infrastructures, and experimental methodologies.
