Dr. Cathy Cohen

Biography

Cathy J. Cohen is the D. Gale Johnson Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, specializing in American Politics. She has held several administrative roles, including chair of the Department of Political Science and director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture. Cohen is an accomplished author, with influential works including 'Boundaries of Blackness: AIDS and the Breakdown of Black Politics' (University of Chicago Press) and 'Democracy Remixed: Black Youth and the Future of American Politics' (Oxford University Press). She co-edited the anthology 'Women Transforming Politics: Alternative Reader' alongside Kathleen Jones and Joan Tronto, and her articles have appeared in numerous leading academic journals, such as the American Political Science Review and the DuBois Review. Cohen has created and manages significant public-facing research projects like the GenForward Survey and the Black Youth Project. She is a recipient of multiple awards and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, serving as co-editor for a series on Black Politics and Communities at Oxford University Press.
