Professor Dr. Cathy Mondloch

Biography

Cathy Mondloch is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Brock University. She holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University and specializes in developmental psychology and perceptual expertise, particularly in face perception. Her research investigates the cognitive and social aspects of facial recognition, including how impressions of trustworthiness and competence are formed from brief encounters. Mondloch’s work intersects with various disciplines, including perception, cognition, and social psychology, and aims to understand how individuals process facial information across different stages of life, from childhood through old age. Collaborating with both undergraduate and graduate students, she explores critical questions about face processing and its implications for understanding special populations, such as individuals with autism. Her research has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, enabling her to leverage cutting-edge technology to address these questions. Cathy is also recognized for her contributions to the field, having won notable awards, including the NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement.
