Cathy VanVoorhis’ oil landscape paintings represent the healing power of nature. Cathy travels to lakes, rivers, and streams to witness the ecological beauty of the natural coastlines of Michigan. She finds inspiration in the writings of naturalists such as Rachel Carson, understanding the intricate web of life. Cathy's work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Muskegon Museum of Art, Saginaw Art Museum, and Dennos Art Museum in Traverse City, as well as the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science in Midland. Recent solo exhibits include the Rogel Cancer Center, the Gifts Art Program at the University of Michigan, and the Center Gallery in Glen Arbor. Her paintings have been published in 'Art of Sleeping Bear Dunes' and 'Transforming Nature Art'. Cathy has been an artist in residence at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park and has curated exhibitions in collaboration with the Legacy Land Conservancy of Southeast Michigan. Currently, Cathy teaches drawing, painting, and color at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan and is working on a book about teaching color.
