Professor Dr. Catrin Finkenauer

Biography

Catrin Finkenauer is a professor at Utrecht University specializing in interpersonal dynamics and the costs and benefits of relationships on young people's health and well-being. Her research combines social, clinical, experimental, biological, and developmental studies to explore how relationship partners influence one another. She is particularly interested in parent-child relationships, intimate relationships, and friendships, as well as identifying means to foster harmonious relationships and prevent misunderstandings and conflict. Holding the Chair in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and Youth Studies, her work is characterized by an aim to understand interpersonal dynamics and the factors contributing to strong relational bonds among young people. She has contributed significantly to the field through both her research publications and her leadership within the academic community. Her inaugural lecture took place on April 1, 2016.

Research Interests
