Biography

Cecilia Akselsson is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lund University. Her research interests focus on sustainability in forest ecosystems, examining both plot-scale and landscape-scale dynamics. At the plot scale, she utilizes empirical data and dynamic forest ecosystem models, like ForSAFE, to explore nutrient and carbon cycling, along with the impacts of climate change and forest management practices on soil chemistry and water runoff. She aims to provide actionable insights for Swedish stakeholders, including various governmental agencies. At the landscape scale, her work develops methodologies that highlight synergies and trade-offs in ecosystem services, as demonstrated through her leadership of the interdisciplinary project ForestPath. Akselsson's contributions are closely tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing sustainability and ecosystem service management in changing climates. She teaches courses on Physical Geography and Land Surface Processes, sharing her extensive knowledge of environmental science with her students.
