Biography

Cecilia Bergström is a licensed chiropractor and researcher focusing on pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain and musculoskeletal conditions in older adults. Her research aims to improve understanding of how women develop long-lasting pain during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as tailoring healthcare treatment to individual needs. She has investigated risk factors and long-term consequences of pelvic girdle pain using questionnaire data and in-depth interviews with women 12 years post-childbirth. Her work has identified clinically relevant subgroups by analyzing psychological and clinical characteristics, creating opportunities for targeted person-centered treatment strategies. A pilot project is underway to prepare for the implementation of a prospective longitudinal study on pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy, focusing on methodological development and recruitment strategies. Additionally, she has experience in international research collaboration and previously served as a data collection coordinator for the Cross-Country Ultrasound Study (CROCUS), which explores the perspectives of midwives and obstetricians on obstetric ultrasound rights across different income countries. She has led an international research project on the experiences of chiropractors treating older adults with musculoskeletal conditions.
