Biography

Cecilia Ekéus is a Professor specializing in reproductive perinatal health. She became a nurse in 1986 and a midwife in 1990. She earned her Master of Public Health from Karolinska Institutet in 1998 and completed her PhD in International Health in 2004 at the same institution. Ekéus served as a Research Assistant for the Swedish Research Council from 2008 to 2012, after which she became an Associate Professor in Reproductive Health at Karolinska Institutet in 2012. In 2019, she took up her current position as a Professor at Uppsala University. Her research focuses on reproductive epidemiology with a specific emphasis on maternal and neonatal outcomes in complicated childbirths. She leads projects and has published numerous epidemiological register-based studies concerning the outcomes of women and children during vacuum extraction deliveries. Ekéus has also initiated a project investigating the causes and consequences of increasing medication use for erectile dysfunction in men younger than 40 years.
