Cecilia Geijer works as Associate Professor at the Division of Industrial Biotechnology at Chalmers University. She completed her PhD in Microbiology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and has been employed at Chalmers since 2013. In addition to her research and teaching duties, Cecilia serves as a Senior Strategic Advisor for Chalmers' Area of Advance Energy and is a member of Chalmers' Faculty Appointment committee. She is a co-founder of a start-up company that develops yeast strains for bioprocesses in the production of food ingredients. Cecilia's research spans curiosity-driven fundamental research as well as challenge-driven development of new biotechnological applications. Specifically, she is interested in exploring yeast biodiversity to uncover unique mechanisms, genes, and enzymes for carbon source assimilation, aiming to use these discoveries to develop novel microbial cell factories for bioproduction processes. In collaboration with others, Cecilia's research group performs bioinformatic comparative genomic analyses and develops novel biomaterials. Her research is funded by grants from Formas, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Vinnova H2020. She oversees and lectures in several courses including KBT016 Biochemistry and Biotechnology and KLI021 Food Microbiology at the PhD level, as well as the BBT065 Industrial Biotechnology course and BBTX11 Bachelor's projects in Biology and Biological engineering.
General requirements apply to all departments listed at Chalmers. Specific departments like Architecture require a portfolio. Programs in Management/Economics do not strictly require GMAT/GRE but high academic standing is prioritized.
