Biography

Cedric Ryngaert is a Professor of Public International Law at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD from Leuven in 2007 and has built a remarkable academic career focusing on various aspects of public international law. His research interests encompass law jurisdiction, immunities, international criminal law, the role of international law in domestic courts, sanctions, international responsibility, and international organizations. Over the years, he has authored significant publications including "Jurisdiction in International Law" (OUP 2015, 2nd ed) and "Selfless Intervention: Exercise of Jurisdiction in the Common Interest" (OUP 2020). He has also contributed to works such as "Secondary Sanctions" in the British Yearbook of International Law (2020). In recognition of his research excellence, he has received VENI and VIDI grants as well as an ERC Starting Grant. Additionally, Ryngaert serves as the chair of the Dutch Advisory Council on International Law (CAVV) and acts as an advisor to the Dutch Foreign Ministry. He is also the editor-in-chief of both the Utrecht Law Review and the Netherlands International Law Review.
