Biography

Cédric Schmelzbach graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, with a Master of Science and obtained his Ph.D. from Uppsala University, Sweden. After graduation, he worked as a research fellow at Rice University in Houston and subsequently held postdoctoral positions at the University of Potsdam and Freie Universität Berlin in Germany. In 2012, he joined ETH Zurich as a senior scientist and lecturer. Dr. Schmelzbach’s research focuses on near-surface seismic exploration, emphasizing seismic methods, acquisition and processing of multicomponent seismic data, and spatial-gradient rotational-motion measurements. He is involved in multidisciplinary investigations of the shallow subsurface and has contributed to space exploration as a member of the Science Team for NASA's InSight mission to Mars and the LISA consortium. He is an active member of several organizations, including EGU, AGU, EAGE, and SEG, and serves as an editor for Advances in Geophysics. His current courses include Geophysical Field Work and Processing: Methods and Geophysical Field Work and Processing: Preparation.
