Biography

Cerrone Akil Cohen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. He joined the faculty in 2015 and is licensed in specialties that encompass both physical and mental illnesses, aiming to improve overall patient well-being. His mission is to empower patients to take charge of their health. In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Cohen contributes to the Family Medicine Residency program by developing a behavioral health curriculum for training residents. Dr. Cohen's educational background includes completing a Family Medicine and Psychiatry Residency at the University of California, Davis from 2010 to 2015, and obtaining his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Medicine. He has been involved in various professional activities including serving on the School of Medicine Promotions Committee since July 2022, and he has received a grant for the Duke Family Medicine Rural Residency Track planning and development, awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration from 2020 to 2023.
