Biography

Chaitanya Deo is a Professor at Georgia Tech in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. He joined Georgia Tech in August 2007 as an Assistant Professor, following a position as a postdoctoral research associate at the Materials Science Technology Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research focuses on radiation effects in structural materials and nuclear fuels. He has gained research experience at institutions such as Princeton University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratories. His expertise includes using computational algorithms and techniques based on statistical mechanics and solid mechanics to explore structure-property-processing relationships in nuclear engineering and materials science. Current funded projects concern the study of atomic-level properties of uranium-based fuel matrices for advanced burner reactors, as well as simulations of constituent redistribution due to radiation damage in various environments. He also engages in high-temperature deformation mechanisms of structural materials under extreme conditions. Professor Deo is open to collaborating with graduate students interested in nuclear engineering and computational materials science, with opportunities for summer internships at national laboratories.
