Biography

Chaitanya S. Deo is a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, where he has been since August 2007. Prior to this, he served as a postdoctoral research associate in the Materials Science Technology Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research is focused on radiation effects in structural materials and nuclear fuels, particularly uranium dioxide. He has also researched at institutions including Princeton University, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratories. Deo's work in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering encompasses structure-property relationships at multiple scales—electronic, atomic, mesoscopic, and continuum. He employs computational algorithms based on statistical mechanics and solid mechanics to explore technologically relevant problems in nuclear engineering and materials science. His current funded projects include studies on atomic-level properties of uranium-based fuel matrices for advanced burner reactors and simulations of constituent redistribution under radiation damage. He actively supervises graduate students in nuclear engineering and computational materials science, encouraging collaborations and internships with national laboratories.
