Dr. Chaloka Beyani

Biography

Chaloka Beyani is an Associate Professor of Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), specializing in International Law and Human Rights. He has been a member of the Centre for the Study of Human Rights at LSE and a United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons. Since joining LSE Law School in 1996, Beyani has taught various subjects including international law, human rights, and public law. He has previously held teaching roles at the University of Oxford and the University of Zambia, and he has also served as a visiting professor at the University of Toronto and Santa Clara University. His professional experience extends to serving as a legal advisor for several international organizations, including the United Nations and the European Union. Beyani's research interests encompass a wide range of topics such as the regulation of private military companies, climate change, treaty making, and constitutional reform. He has contributed significantly to legal frameworks protecting the rights of displaced persons and has authored several publications exploring the intersections of law and human rights in contemporary issues.
