Biography

Chan Park is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin's Information School, starting in Fall 2026. His research focuses on enhancing AI technologies to understand social context in language and to build adaptable personalized Large Language Models (LLMs). Currently, he is taking a gap year as a postdoctoral researcher with the AI Interaction and Learning team at Microsoft Research. Previously, he was a postdoc under Yejin Choi at the University of Washington. He earned his PhD from the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was advised by Yulia Tsvetkov. Chan's work has been recognized in top conferences and journals, including PNAS, ACL, and ICLR, and has been featured in media outlets such as MIT Technology Review and The Washington Post. He has received several notable awards including the ACL Paper Award and the Wikimedia Research Award, and was named a Rising Star in Data Science by the University of Chicago. He is also a recipient of the K&L Gates Presidential Fellowship.
