Biography

Chandra R. Bhat, Joe J. King Chair in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, teaches courses in transportation systems analysis and transportation planning. He directs the USDOT-funded National Center for Understanding Future Travel Behavior Demand and has served as the Director of the Data-Supported Transportation Operations Planning (D-STOP) Tier 1 USDOT University Transportation Center. Bhat has held the position of Associate Chairman in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and directed the Center for Transportation Research. He is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading expert in travel demand modeling and travel behavior analysis, with his methodological works widely referenced across economics, marketing, geography, and statistics in transportation fields. His contributions include authored book chapters focused on advanced methods in choice modeling and land use-travel demand modeling. His research has been funded by several prominent organizations including the National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, and U.S. Department of Transportation.
