Biography

Chandra Morrison Ariyo is a Visiting Research Fellow at the London School of Economics, specializing in urban ethnography with a focus on public art practices, visual culture, and urbanism in Latin America. With fifteen years of experience, he has conducted extensive ethnographic research, particularly within graffiti communities in São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, as well as exploring the broader public debates surrounding urban art across the Latin American continent. His work is complemented by participatory multimodal research projects concerning feminist activism and urban violence, alongside cultural policy aimed at supporting socially engaged art in the United Kingdom. Morrison Ariyo is a founding member of the Feminist Cities Co-Lab, which is funded by the British Academy and aims to advance interdisciplinary research methods. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has completed postdoctoral research and teaching at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, before moving to his current position at LSE. He initially joined the Department of Geography and Environment as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow and is currently leading a British Academy project while pursuing his artistic practice. His book "Metagraffiti: Graffiti Art and Urban Image in Latin America" was published by Rutgers University Press, contributing significantly to the discourse on urban art.
