Dr. Changliu Liu

Biography

Changliu Liu is an Associate Professor at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on building intelligent autonomous robots that can think, behave, and interact with the world in a manner akin to human beings, assisting and collaborating with people in their daily lives, whether at work or during leisure activities. A fundamental question guiding his research is how to ensure robots operate efficiently and safely within human-involved environments. His work addresses both microscopic aspects, such as the design of behavior systems that map observations to actions for individual robots, and macroscopic aspects that involve analyzing and validating human-robot systems from a multi-agent perspective. His interests also include developing human-robot collaboration systems for production lines and future transportation systems that integrate automated and human-driven vehicles, as well as general cyber-physical social systems. Liu has supervised several PhD and master's students, and his lab is known for its contributions to intelligent control and robotics.
