Biography

Chanika Phornphutkul is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well as Pediatrics at Brown University, where she has been a faculty member since 2002. She completed her MD at Chiang Mai University School of Medicine in Thailand, followed by Pediatrics residency and fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology and Clinical Biochemical Genetics at Hasbro Children's Hospital and the National Human Genome Research Institute, respectively. Dr. Phornphutkul directs the Genetic Metabolism Clinic at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where she also serves as a Chief and Clinical Educator. Her research focuses on clinical applications of genomic medicine, with an emphasis on the effects of growth and nutrient signaling on chondrogenesis and linear bone growth. Dr. Phornphutkul leads several funded research projects that explore the regulatory pathways involved in these processes, contributing significantly to the understanding of genetic and environmental factors in pediatric health. She is active in various professional organizations and has received multiple awards for her teaching and research contributions. Furthermore, she holds board certifications in General Pediatrics, Clinical Biochemical Genetics, and Pediatric Endocrinology.
