Biography

Channarong Intahchomphoo is an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa's School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, specializing in the societal impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics. His work focuses on the responsible design of AI systems, particularly for underserved communities, guiding engineers, business leaders, and policymakers in incorporating social responsibility into technology practices. Channarong has taught courses such as 'Ethics in Design', 'AI and Robotics', and has conducted research into AI’s role in underserved communities. In 2024, he delivered a keynote speech at the United Nations in Geneva regarding AI bias and fairness. In 2022, he served as an adviser to AImpower, a Silicon Valley nonprofit dedicated to co-creating technology for marginalized communities. In 2024, he also advised on Building Futures, a digital mentoring center for Indigenous youth. Channarong received Meta’s Global Literacy Challenge Research Award in 2018 for his research on literacy for female migrants, and he was a finalist for the Ontario Lieutenant Governor’s Visionaries Prize in 2017 for his PhD dissertation on Indigenous youth in Ontario. He has received numerous academic honors, including the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship, and was named the engineering valedictorian for the University of Ottawa’s 2019 Convocation.
