Biography

Chantal Backman is a Full Professor and the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. She obtained her PhD in Nursing from the University of Alberta in 2011, and also holds a Master of Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa. Professor Backman is recognized for her extensive research on frail older adults, health services research, and the application of mixed methods in her studies. She is an ICES Fellow working on the Life Stage Research Program since 2022 and has served as a senior scientist at the Institut du Savoir Montfort since 2024. Additionally, she has been an affiliate investigator at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the Bruyère Research Institute, focusing on methodological implementation research and programs for the elderly. Professor Backman is committed to guiding new students in their thesis supervision, fostering their academic development and preparing them for their professional careers.
