Biography

Chantal Bémeur is a specialist in nutrition related to liver disease and its numerous complications. She has a background as a dietitian/nutritionist and completed her graduate studies along with two post-doctoral fellowships focused on conditions affecting the hepatic and nervous systems, such as hepatic encephalopathy and lactic acidosis. Generally, Bémeur's research activities are fundamental and clinical, including productive collaborations with the hepatology and gastroenterology department of CHUM. As an expert member of the "International Society Hepatic Encephalopathy Nitrogen Metabolism," she contributed to the development of nutrition guidelines related to liver diseases. She is also part of a team of Canadian experts who created an evidence-based nutritional education guide in collaboration with individuals suffering from chronic liver disease and their caregivers in Alberta. Bémeur has published several book chapters, around thirty scientific articles, and a hundred scientific abstracts. Her laboratory co-leads the HepatoNeuro laboratory within the Cardiometabolic axis of the Research Center of the University Hospital Center of Montreal (CRCHUM).
