Dr. Chantal Stern

Biography

Chantal Stern is a Professor and Department Chair at Boston University, leading the Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory and the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center. Her research focuses on mapping the human brain using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), with primary goals centered on understanding how the brain encodes, stores, and recognizes visual, spatial, and verbal information. Additionally, she investigates normal short-term and long-term memory processes through behavioral testing and fMRI, particularly in the context of normal aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and HIV-related dementia. Her lab involves graduate students conducting research within the Psychology Department, in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital and the NMR center.
