Dr. Chao Huang

Biography

Chao Huang is an Associate Professor in the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, UK. His research interests focus on Reinforcement Learning, Formal Methods, Design Automation, and Cyber Physical Systems. Dr. Huang aims to provide reliable machine learning solutions in applications such as robotics and transportation, emphasizing critical properties like safety, security, and robustness in uncertain environments. He has been active in developing verification tools for safety analysis, including POLAR and ReachNN*, which assist in verifying neural-network-controlled systems. Prior to his current position, Dr. Huang was a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Liverpool, and he also completed postdoctoral research at Northwestern University. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science from Nanjing University in China. Dr. Huang leads several research projects, including Cross-Layer Uncertainty-Aware Reinforcement Learning and Safe Autonomous Driving, and has published papers primarily focused on improving reinforcement learning techniques for complex scenarios.
