Biography

Chao Tian is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Computer Engineering from Cornell University in 2005 and a B.E. in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2000. His research interests focus on a computational approach to information-theoretic converses, coding for distributed data storage, and joint source-channel coding. He also explores approximate approaches in network information theory and addresses problems related to lossy multiuser source coding. Throughout his career, Professor Tian has received several accolades, including the Jack Keil Wolf International Symposium on Information Theory Student Paper Award from IEEE in 2017, and the Distinguished Speakers Tour Committee Data Storage Paper Award in 2014. He is recognized for his contributions to the field and has been awarded the AT&T Key Contributor Award multiple times. Professor Tian is also active in academic community services and outreach, contributing to the advancement of engineering education and research.
