Dr. Chao Zhang

Biography

Chao Zhang is an associate professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University in January 2004 and his B.S. in Chemistry from Peking University in June 1998. Dr. Zhang's research focuses on developing and utilizing novel chemical tools to dissect the functional roles of proteins in cell-signaling networks, which is aimed at accelerating the development of effective therapeutics for the treatment of human diseases. His lab primarily focuses on generating chemical probes with reactive groups to achieve specific covalent labeling of particular sites on proteins and DNA, as well as investigating the conformational regulation of signaling proteins through small-molecule ligands. Dr. Zhang's work contributes significantly to the fields of chemical biology, chemical genetics, and medicinal chemistry.
