Dr. Chaolin Zhang

Biography

Chaolin Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Biology and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University. He completed his PhD training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and underwent postdoctoral training at Rockefeller University as part of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Known for his multidisciplinary approach to studying mechanisms and functions of post-transcriptional gene regulation, especially in the context of diseases, Dr. Zhang's research focuses on understanding the targeting specificity of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and their roles in alternative splicing. His lab has achieved groundbreaking advancements in mapping protein-RNA interactions at a single-nucleotide resolution on a genome-wide scale, as well as developing innovative statistical models to define the binding specificity of RBPs. Dr. Zhang's work is particularly impactful in the field of RNA Systems Biology and seeks to translate the fundamental understanding of RNA regulation into precision genetic medicine.
