Biography

Chaouki Tanios Abdallah is a professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he serves as the Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR) from 2018 to 2024. Abdallah began his academic career at the Faculty of Engineering at Saint Joseph University and earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Youngstown State University in 1981, followed by his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1982 and 1988, respectively. After joining the University of New Mexico (UNM), he held various positions including professor and department chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering, ultimately serving as Provost and EVP of Academic Affairs from 2011 to 2016 and as interim president. With a significant academic legacy, he has published eight books and over 300 peer-reviewed papers, securing more than $9 million in external funding. His research focuses on systems theory, control, communications, and computing systems, with funding from prestigious organizations such as NSF and AFOSR. Abdallah has been recognized with numerous awards, including the IEEE Millennium Medal and the Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award from UNM. He is also a fluent speaker of English, French, and Arabic.
