Biography

Chaowen Ting is an Associate Professor and Director of Orchestral Studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Known for her remarkable musical direction and ability to pull beautiful sounds with many nuances, she seeks to connect people through music. A native of Taiwan, she is based in Atlanta and has a deep desire to build meaningful communities through innovative programming and collaborations. Ting has been praised for her empathic leadership and advocacy for equity in the music industry. In the 2023-24 season, she will conduct the world premiere of 'Forsyth County Flooding,' a chamber opera commissioned by the Atlanta Opera with music by Marcus Norris and librettist Adamma Ebo. Additionally, she will serve as assistant conductor with the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie for a performance of Verdi’s Requiem at the Philharmonie Berlin. Her previous engagements include conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra, Augusta Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, South Carolina Philharmonic, Cincinnati Sinfonietta, Opera Philadelphia, and Opera Orlando, as well as orchestras in Europe, Asia, and Central America. She is a past recipient of the prestigious Bruno Walter Memorial Fellowship and earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music, where she was also a participant in the Dallas Opera Hart Institute for Women Conductors.
