Dr. Charlene Zietsma

Biography

Charlene Zietsma is the Max McGraw Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the Ross School of Business and the School for Environment & Sustainability at the University of Michigan, where she also serves as the Faculty Director of the Erb Institute. Her academic career includes previous positions at Pennsylvania State University, York University in Toronto, Western University, and the University of Victoria. An International Research Fellow at the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation, she earned her doctorate from the University of British Columbia. Professor Zietsma's research centers on social innovation and investigates individual, organizational, and collective efforts to effect significant, large-scale change in the context of sustainability and social justice. Her work examines institutional processes, social entrepreneurship, and movements focused on solving grand challenges. Zietsma has lectured extensively and has published in leading management journals, receiving multiple awards for her contributions, including the Administrative Science Quarterly Scholarly Contribution Award. Her work has had a recognized societal impact, and she has served on editorial boards and organized various conferences. Additionally, she has held visiting appointments at several international universities.
