Biography

Charles Arrowsmith is a researcher associated with the University of Oxford's Department of Physics, specifically focusing on astroparticle physics within the Oxford Centre for High Energy Density Science (OxCHEDS). He is a graduate student working with Professor Gianluca Gregori in the High-Energy Density Laboratory Astrophysics (HEDLA) group, where he aims to develop experimental techniques utilizing high-intensity lasers and particle beams. His research interests are centered around understanding the behavior of matter in extreme astrophysical environments, such as those found near black holes and neutron stars. He conducts laboratory experiments that are designed to validate theoretical models of how interstellar dust affects astrophysical observations, particularly how it interacts with plasma. These models are crucial for accurate interpretations of astronomical data, especially those related to the cosmic microwave background, which gives insights into the early universe.
