Charles Bourque began his academic career at Dalhousie University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Theoretical Ecology. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Synoptic Meteorology from the University of Alberta. At the University of New Brunswick (UNB), he completed a Master of Science in Forestry, focusing on forest-atmosphere interactions. He continued his studies at UNB, completing a PhD that concentrated on air pollution and forest interaction. Since joining UNB as a faculty member in 1994, Bourque has also worked at Concord Scientific, an environmental consulting firm based in Toronto, and held a position as an assistant professor at Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He later seized the opportunity to return to New Brunswick and teach at UNB. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at Beijing Forestry University in China, where he travels to teach several months a year. In his spare time, Bourque enjoys winter sports such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
