Biography

Charles M. Elliott is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Warwick, specializing in mathematical analysis, numerical analysis, and partial differential equations (PDEs). His research encompasses various applications such as mathematical biology, material science, continuum mechanics, and phase transitions. Elliott's work on PDEs includes complex evolving domains, manifolds, and advanced numerical techniques like finite element methods. He has contributed significantly to understanding free boundary problems, geometric evolution equations, and surface growth phenomena. His research interests also delve into inverse problems and cell motility, particularly in biomembranes and PDE optimization. In addition to his research activities, Elliott has held editorial positions in several journals and is engaged with academic societies as a fellow. His achievements include receiving the Humboldt Prize in 2010 and the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2016. He was also honored with an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Sussex in 2022.
