Biography

Charles Forsdick is the Drapers Professor of French at the University of Cambridge. He studied French as an undergraduate at New College, Oxford and completed his PhD at Lancaster University. Forsdick has served as a lecturer at the University of Glasgow and held the James Barrow Chair in French at the University of Liverpool before moving to Cambridge in 2023. He has held significant roles in academia, including President of the Society for French Studies from 2012 to 2014 and Co-Director of the Centre for the Study of International Slavery from 2010 to 2013. He was an AHRC Theme Leadership Fellow from 2012 to 2021 and is a member of the Academy of Europe and a Lead Fellow in Languages of the British Academy. His editorial contributions include co-editing a series at Liverpool University Press focused on contemporary French and Francophone cultures. Forsdick is a prominent figure in the field of Francophone postcolonial studies, with research interests that span modern and contemporary French Francophone literature, colonial literature, Caribbean literature, dark tourism, and translation studies. He has been involved in various research projects emphasizing the intersection of arts and humanities with community partners.
