Biography

Charles J. Gerardo is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Duke University. He graduated with honors from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received his MD degree from the University of California, Davis. Gerardo completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center and earned a Masters in Health Sciences from Duke University through the Clinical Research Training Program. Since joining the Emergency Medicine faculty at Duke University in 2000, he has taken on numerous educational, research, and administrative leadership roles. His current research focuses on global snake envenomation, utilizing various methodologies, transitional science, and clinical trials, as well as machine learning and implementation science. Gerardo has published 90 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in significant journals, including JAMA, PLOS Medicine, Annals of Emergency Medicine, and Academic Emergency Medicine Clinical Toxicology.
