Biography

Charles Eric Hintz is a Lecturer in Law at Penn Carey Law and an Associate Professor at the University of Missouri School of Law. He has extensive experience in litigation, having worked as counsel at Shapiro Arato Bach LLP, where he represented clients in criminal appellate, post-conviction, and civil litigation matters. Previously, he served as a litigation associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and was a research fellow at Penn Carey Law’s Quattrone Center for Fair Administration of Justice. Charles has also held clerkships with Judge Kent Jordan of the United States Court of Appeals and Judge Robert E. Payne of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2017, where he graduated Order of the Coif and served as notes editor for the Virginia Law Review. He also holds a Master of Arts in global security studies from Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated summa cum laude, and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Emory University. His research interests encompass criminal procedure, habeas corpus, and post-conviction review, as well as the intersection of criminal and civil procedure.
