Dr. Charles Mossman

Biography

Charles Mossman is a professor of finance at the I.H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, where he has been a faculty member since 1990. He serves as a Senior Scholar following his retirement in 2013. Mossman has held various roles, including Acting Head of the Accounting and Finance Department and Associate Dean of the Asper School, where he was responsible for overseeing undergraduate and graduate programs. He played a significant role in maintaining the AACSB accreditation for the school, which was successfully renewed in 2009. Mossman's teaching focuses on corporate financial strategy and corporate finance within the Commerce MBA programs and investments in the doctoral program. His research mainly revolves around investments, bankruptcy prediction, and market anomalies. Additionally, he has a history of coaching finance teams in national competitions and supervising doctoral and masters students. His professional service includes multiple roles in university governance and contributions to academic committees. Mossman has also worked in various capacities before academia, including as a Finance Officer in the Canadian Forces and held positions in the oil industry. His contributions to the field have been recognized through several awards, including the Award of Merit from CGA Manitoba and recognition as Fellow of the Certified General Accountants Association Canada. Mossman earned degrees from the Royal Military College (BA-Honours Economics), Queen's University (MBA), and the University of Western Ontario (PhD Finance).
