Biography

Charles Nemeroff is the Matthew P. Nemeroff Endowed Chair at the Dell Medical School, where he directs the Institute for Early Life Adversity Research within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Prior to joining Dell Medical, he held the position of Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and served as the clinical director of the Center on Aging at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Nemeroff has a distinguished medical background, having received his medical degree and doctorate in neurobiology from the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine. His residency training in psychiatry was completed at UNC and Duke University. He has held faculty positions at Duke University Medical Center and Emory University School of Medicine before relocating to Miami in 2009. Dr. Nemeroff's leadership roles include serving as president of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He is committed to advancing research in mood and anxiety disorders, focusing on the impact of child abuse and neglect as major risk factors. He has published over 1,000 research reports and reviews and has been a prolific contributor to the academic community through leadership roles in research councils and editorial positions in prominent journals. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Kempf Award in Psychobiology and the Julius Axelrod Award for mentoring. Dr. Nemeroff was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2002 and was named Alumnus of the Year by UNC.
